Game Review: TellTale's Batman: The Enemy Within; The Enigma
Updated: May 27, 2019
In my defense, I didn’t even know that there was a second installment already out. So its technically not my fault that it took so long for this to come up. If anything, The Mountain Man should have wrote this review because he completed it before me.
“Approximately one year after the defeat of the Children of Arkham, Bruce Wayne/Batman (Troy Baker) slowly starts regaining his reputation in Gotham City following the unveiling of his parents as criminals. He targets Rumi Mori (Keone Young), one of Gotham City's most notorious arms dealers, who is seen gambling at a casino. However, a mysterious man in a hood captures Mori and takes the casino patrons hostage. Wayne suits up as Batman and reenters the casino and is told by Alfred (Enn Reitel) that the man with the hood is Riddler (Robin Atkin Downes), a criminal mastermind from Gotham City's past who hasn't been seen in several years.”
Without giving away the story completely, there is a lot of unexpected twists that was not definitely not expected, but the franchise is taking a different turn from the previous season. It feels like this season will be spending more time on individual villains per episode rather than a massive build up to the last episode which unveils the final villain. Which I am not completely against. But I also could wrong as well. This season also includes an unexpected friendship with the Joker and Bruce Wayne.
The game adds in more elements with some newer style for gadgets but the game has irritating points. Especially when it comes the See/Speak/Hear No evil riddles. Completely irritating. Understanding you need to have some level of challenge, but I shouldn’t need to watch YouTube videos to have it pointed out to me which one out of the 50+ safes I need to select. The Riddler is cunning and needs to be as it is his trademark, but be cunning, not agitating.
With First Episode in the books, its clearly evident who will be in episode 2. And I can’t wait to play it in October.
