Cosplayer Spotlight: Xiuemi Cosplay
Updated: May 28, 2019
Hey everyone, Todd is here reporting for DroidsCanada.com. This week, we have been lucky enough to score an interview with Xiuemi Cosplay. We have been looking forward to posting this interview and we hope everyone will enjoy it!
Droids: This week we have a treat for our fellow geeks! We get to sit down with Xiuemi Cosplay! Thank you for sitting down with us for an installment of Cosplayer Spotlight!
Xiuemi: Thank you so much! It’s an honor for me to be here.
Droids: Easy/typical questions first. What was the first convention you attended? What was the most memorable part of that convention?
Xiuemi: My first convention ever was a convention called Nishicon back in 2011. It was their first edition as well, and it was held in a gym. It was my biggest dream to visit a convention, so when my dad finally allowed me to, I almost screamed! The best part was that I could go with my best friend of that time. I met amazing people who were in the same fandom as me and I felt like the luckiest person on earth. I wouldn’t trade that day for the world, now.
Droids: Is there a cosplay you will not do? If so, and Why?
Xiuemi: That’s a tough question! I’m not sure if there’s exactly a cosplay I wouldn’t ‘’ever’’ do, because I see interest in almost every cosplay. But looking at myself, I don’t see myself cosplay movie characters for example. I’m more of an anime- and game cosplay kind-of girl!
Droids: What was your favorite cosplay costume that you've done so far?
Response: My favorite cosplay so far has to be Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura. I’ve watched that series ever since I was a child, and she’s just kind of like my ‘’childhood idol’’. Ever since I started cosplaying I wanted to cosplay her, and I finally got to do so in 2016!
Droids: Do you have a favorite convention? If so, which one is it, and why?
Xiumei: It’s definitely AnimeCon. It’s one of the biggest conventions here in the Netherlands. It’s held at the World Forum Theatre in The Hague. It’s my favorite because I just love the whole atmosphere. Everyone is just so kind and chill, but also very professional. Sometimes cosplay celebrities around the world come and visit, and everyone is just so hyped. I always go with the same group of friends, too. It’s somewhat a tradition for us to go now.
Droids: What was the hardest costume for you to make to date? What made it so difficult?
Xiuemi: I think my hardest costume at the moment is one I am still working on. It’s D.Va from Overwatch. I didn’t want to go the easy way and just buy a zentai suit, but I’m creating the whole costume from scratch. This way I hope I can join cosplay competitions, too.
Droids: Is there a Con that you have not gone to yet but aspire to do so?
Xiuemi: That would be Japan Expo in Paris. I’ve heard amazing stuff about that convention. This year I’m finally planning to go! I’m so stoked, and I can’t wait until it’s finally July.
Droids: Do you have a funny experience from a comic con that you want to share?
Xiumei: I just love it how people are so in-character at comic cons! For example, I went to a Christmas comic con back in December, and there was a guy dressed as the Grinch from ‘’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’’. He was also acting in-character, and I thought he was the funniest guy ever! He absolutely made my day.
Droids: Is there anything else you want to add about cosplay or yourself in general or perhaps promote something that may not have already been covered?
Xiuemi: I just wanted to say that the cosplay community is absolutely amazing. 5 years ago I wouldn’t even imagined that I would be where I am today. I just hope that I can motivate people to go and cosplay whatever they want! Even if you’re really shy, or even if you’re not that crafty at all, please go ahead and try. I promise, it’ll be amazing!
Droids: It was an absolute pleasure sitting down with you! Congratulations on your continued success as an amazing cosplayer! We hope to see you at a Convention some time!
