Game Review: Batman: A TellTale Series
Updated: May 28, 2019
Let’s be honest, TellTale has been on fire since releasing their first interactive game series of Back to The Future. Once they had momentum, they went to the biggest Franchise out there, The Walking Dead, to see if they would be game. Since then, they have made 2 Walking Dead Seasons, 1 Michonne Spin off, Back to the Future, Borderlands, and Game of Thrones stories. Why not a DC Story?
Troy Baker returns to the Batman franchise, but in a different role. Instead of returning as the Joker from Arkham Origins, he returns as Batman? Was Kevin Conroy busy? I will admit, I am a huge fan of Troy Baker, but even I know when roles don’t fit. Troy as Batman did not really fit for me. The rest of the cast was all different actors except for Dave Fennoy who played Lucius Fox in the Arkham series. I thought the voice casting was a huge miss in this game.
Like most Batman stories, it always seems like it’s an origins stories of sorts. The game starts at the beginning inception of the Batman with introductions to Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin, Selina Kyle aka Cat Woman, Harvey Dent aka 2 Face, and of course, The Joker. But it also introduces a story line about the Children of Arkham. Which in a way, felt like a knock off of the Court of Owls in certain ways. Now if it wasn’t for the fact that this story was already created via in the New 52 in the few years or even recently on last season in Gotham, the story wouldn’t be as bad. But since this seems to be the main go to story these days, it’s kind of annoying. However, this story does go very dark in the 4th and 5th episode as Batman continues to uncover who the Children of Arkham are. Prepare yourself for that
The control scheme had some new factors brought into it. Such as “Knockout blows” which was typically R2 + triangle. This would end the current fight u were in with a devastating finish. Also, they put into detective mode which is not really explained to you. After some trial and error, you eventually figure out what you need to do to advance.
Overall, if they completed another Batman series, really spend time on who they chose for the voice acting and maybe not go with an origins story? Just a thought. Check out our channel to see the entire gameplay for all 5 episodes.
